Friday changes the math: mornings are still walk-in friendly, but by afternoon the tents fill fast and by evening re-entry basically stops. So this plan doesn't hop between tents — it parks you at one great tent through a long lunch, uses unreserved beer gardens as the daytime fallback, and leans on Hofbräu's walk-in-only standing area to guarantee an evening in.

• 8:00 AM (08:00) — Light breakfast at the hotel. Coffee and something small — save real appetite for a pretzel and Weisswurst on the grounds. Get into dirndl and lederhosen before you head out.
• 8:40 AM (08:40) — Walk to Theresienwiese. ~14 minutes on foot from Bayerstraße down to the north entrance — no taxi or U-Bahn needed this early.
• 9:00 AM (09:00) — Grounds before the gates open. The fairground opens ahead of tent seating: wander the empty midway, get photos without the crowds, find a restroom, get your bearings before you queue.
• 9:30 AM (09:30) — Line up at Augustiner-Festzelt. Head straight for the entrance and hold your spot. Augustiner is the locals' favorite — still poured from wooden kegs — and a Friday morning is your best realistic shot at a walk-in table for two.
• 10:00 AM (10:00) — Doors open — claim your table. Go straight in and sit down; this is the moment the whole plan hinges on. First Maß and a pretzel while the tent fills in around you.
• 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM (10:30–13:30) — Camp out at Augustiner. The meal to linger over: Weisswurst if you want the full tradition (technically a pre-noon dish), then Schweinsbraten or roast chicken as the band warms up. Friday afternoons fill fast and re-entry gets hard — treat this table as the one you don't give up early.
• 1:30 – 3:30 PM (13:30–15:30) — Cash out and walk the fairground. Once you leave a table it's genuinely gone, so settle up on your own terms. Then work off lunch on the midway: the Olympia Looping if you're brave, the Teufelsrad is funnier to watch than to ride, gebrannte Mandeln and a Steckerlfisch to graze on.
• 3:30 – 4:15 PM (15:30–16:15) — Schottenhamel's beer garden. The tent where the mayor taps the ceremonial first keg on opening day; its 4,000-seat outdoor garden is unreserved by rule, always. The easiest sit-down beer of the afternoon — duck inside the tent for a look while you're there.
• 4:15 – 5:00 PM (16:15–17:00) — Swing by Hacker-Festzelt. The festival's best-known interior, a painted sky ceiling with drifting clouds. Worth a look and worth asking if a table's free — but on a Friday mid-afternoon treat it as a photo stop, with its own beer garden as the fallback.
• 5:00 – 5:45 PM (17:00–17:45) — Dinner on the move. Schweinshaxe or a half chicken from a stall or beer-garden stand, no table required. Also your buffer before the evening crunch.
• 5:45 – 9:00 PM (17:45–21:00) — Hofbräu-Festzelt Stehkurve. Hofbräu's dedicated standing-room area exists purely for walk-ins and never takes reservations — the one guaranteed door into a main tent on a Friday night. Peak Wiesn energy. Get there before 6:00 PM (18:00) so you're in before it's shoulder to shoulder.
• 9:00 – 9:45 PM (21:00–21:45) — Try the Weinzelt, or another round outside. When your ears want a break from the brass band, the Weinzelt is a calmer register (wine and sparkling, open till 1:00 AM) — but on a Friday night don't count on getting in. A beer-garden round nearby is the easy backup.
• 9:45 – 10:30 PM (21:45–22:30) — Last lap of the grounds. One more Brezn or Steckerlfisch, the fairground lit up at night, and — no promises — a look for a way into Käfer's Wies'n-Schänke if you're feeling lucky.
• 10:30 – 11:15 PM (22:30–23:15) — Back to Le Méridien. Walk it if your feet allow, or the U4/U5 from Theresienwiese if not. Friday's grounds stay open till midnight, but leave with a buffer rather than racing the close.

• Cash & budget. Bring cash — most stalls and many tents don't take cards. Official 2026 beer prices run €14.80–15.90 per Maß (Augustiner cheapest at €14.90; the Weinzelt's wheat beer priciest at €18.40). A half roast chicken is about €18. For the two of you, a full day of several rounds and two meals each lands around €140–200 per person, in cash.
• Reservations, realistically. All 14 main tents take reservations, but the booking windows opened back in spring 2026 — Friday evening tables at the big-name tents are almost certainly gone. By city rule a quarter of seats in every tent stay unreserved all day (half until 3:00 PM, but only on weekends and holidays — Friday doesn't get that boost), which is what makes the early arrival worth it.
• Beer gardens are plan B. Every large tent has an outdoor garden that can never be reserved — only indoor tables can. Turnover is fast since people stop for one Maß and move on, so when an indoor tent is closed off, the garden right outside it is usually still open.
• What to wear. Late September in Munich averages a high near 19°C (66°F) and a low near 10°C (50°F), with rain on roughly a quarter of days. Layer under the dirndl and lederhosen, and carry a light rain layer.
• Bag rules. Bags capped at 3 liters or 20×15×10cm — small handbags fine, normal backpacks not. No glass bottles, no weapons. Every bag is checked and tagged at the gate.
• Getting there and back. Le Méridien is on Bayerstraße, ~14 minutes' walk to the north entrance. U4/U5 Theresienwiese is the backup for the walk back, especially late.
• Tent hours, reservation windows and prices are set independently each year — worth a quick re-check closer to Sept 24 in case anything shifts.
